DHL Supply Chain has selected Andries Retief as the company’s new Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) for the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, and Africa).
Retief, who has been with DHL Supply Chain since 2009, brings extensive experience to his new role, having held various leadership positions in finance, transportation, operations, and country management across Africa, Europe, and Asia. Most recently, he led DHL Supply Chain’s operations in Southeast Asia, driving significant growth initiatives across several countries.
“I’m excited to bring my extensive market experience to the EMEA region. With the growth opportunities here, from multi-sector industries, and strategic locations to rapid urbanization and increasing consumer demand, our customers rely on our solutions to simplify and scale their contract logistics operations,” stated Retief.
As he steps into his new position on 1 September 2024, Retief will focus on navigating the peak season, a major annual challenge for the logistics industry. He anticipates an earlier start to this period and aims to ensure scalable capacity for customers through DHL’s network of warehouses, transportation, and value-added services.
In addition, Retief emphasizes the importance of developing sustainable supply chain strategies in collaboration with customers, particularly through DHL’s Lead Logistics Partner offering, to handle the surge in demand effectively. Additionally, he plans to enhance support for smaller web shops through the DHL Fulfillment Network.
Retief will report directly to Hendrik Venter, CEO of DHL Supply Chain EMEA, succeeding Leonard Aerts, who has transitioned to Monta, a Dutch e-commerce fulfilment company. The two organizations have been collaborating since October 2022.
